Susan Cohan, APLD, the incoming 2014 President for APLD National, recently blogged an excellent message about 'just showing up' for APLD events and what it's done for her professional development. It inspired us to extend this 'just show up' message to membership--just join. Good things started happening for most of us, just after we joined:

  • Immediately be a part of a professional network; meet and gain support from designers, vendors, contractors, and other industry professionals
  • Suddenly have access to quality continued education, webinars, activities, garden tours and other events-all just because you join
  • Start attending International Design Conferences; there's access to more quality education and networking with designers from all regions of the U.S and other countries
  • Help create APLD's garden at the Northwest Flower & Garden Show--what a mind bending exercise in design, creativity, and best of all, getting to know other designers
  • Visibility in a profession that has a lot of players
  • Membership in APLD continues to elevate and affirm a high level of landscape design professionalism; it is the only national organization that does so
  • Certification is offered to members who want to raise the bar even higher; the process validates a member's work as meeting the highest professional standards
  • APLD advocates for its members through legislative monitoring, lobbying, feedback and input to the State of Washington State legislature
Whatever your reason may be for joining APLD we believe you'll find it to be a worthwhile professional community that offers tools and resources that strongly support its members and opens doors you didn't know existed!
