Courtney and Kevin will present
A Case Study in Collaboration and Creativity for a Small Urban Space

This presentation highlights the importance of the designer/contractor partnership in ensuring a successful result—from the initial client meeting to design development and onsite troubleshooting during construction. Kevin Monohan of Avalon NW and designer Courtney Olander of Olander Garden Design worked together to fulfill a Queen Anne client’s wish list while addressing several tricky site conditions including a small space, slope, easement/property line issues, and more. Courtney and Kevin will walk through the project step by step showing before, during and after photos, designs and sketches—highlighting the importance of collaboration and flexibility through all phases.

After our morning presentation, we will take a short garden walk through the gorgeous Bellevue Botanic Gardens to catch the winter highlights. After lunch, our APLDWA sponsors will take the stage with some mini-demos on topics including lighting and irrigation for tricky site conditions. Interspersed with the mini-demos, we will meet our APLDWA sponsors in-person, developing new relationships. And the most fun? Collecting sponsor swag!
